Morning race meetings scheduled for Geelong and The Meadows on Wednesday 13 January have been cancelled due to predicted extreme hot weather conditions.
Under Greyhound Racing Victoria’s recently reviewed Hot Weather Policy, greyhound racing or trialling cannot be conducted if the temperature exceeds 38 degrees.
As at 12.00 noon today the Bureau of Meteorology has predicted 42 degrees Celsius in Geelong by 2pm and 41 degrees in Broadmeadows by 2pm.
A decision about whether to proceed with the two night meetings scheduled for Wednesday at Cranbourne (40 degrees Celsius forecast) and Ballarat (39 degrees Celsius forecast) will be made at 3pm today.
