Gun sprinter Banjo Boy, who was scratched from Thursday night’s Group 2 Macro Meats Shootout at Sandown Park because of a spider bite, is recovering well from the mishap.
“He was bitten in between two of his back toes and luckily it isn’t too serious. However, he has had an allergic reaction to it which has caused a lot of swelling in his toes,” trainer Ken Virtue said.
Virtue now finds himself in a race against time to get the 2014 Cranbourne Cup winner fit for Thursday night’s heats of the $600,000 TAB Melbourne Cup.
