Young Mount Wallace training sensation Corey Grenfell, 26, quinellaed tonight’s Group 2 Triple M Bendigo Cup (425m).
But it was ‘second string’ Yozo Bale who upstaged his champion kennelmate, Tiggerlong Tonk, in the keenly contested $50,000-to-the-winner final.
An emerging talent, Yozo Bale ($11.60) was quickly into stride from Box 4 and held off the fast finishing Tiggerlong Tonk ($4.80) by 0.39L, with Shima Shine ($2.20F) – who set a new track record in a heat – a further 0.21L away third in 23.88sec.
“He’s an up-and-coming dog,” Grenfell said. “I’m glad he’s done this so early in his career.”
